ODBC is available on many systems besides windows. What if that sun.jcbc.odbc.jdbcodbcdriver indicates you don’t have it? Although last time looked installing it and configuring it was a real pain on the unix version I was looking at. In Spoon, it’s a two step process: Email Required, but never shown. I suspect that, for example, if you want to connect to Oracle and you get the type 4 drivers from Oracle that they will work just fine on that OS. JdbcOdbcDriver, is Windows-only, I think. So whenever you download a jdk of any version the hdbcodbc driver is included along whith the package. There are some 3rd party ODBC drivers for Mac and Linux, you’ll have to get one of those if you really really need ODBC many people think they do, but don’t really; some people really do.
Drivers are not part of java. That is part of java.

More sun.jdbc.odbc.jdbcodbvdriver involved to actually use it. You might find that for the database that you are using that there is no driver explicitly for that OS though.
